Meet the Guides

Troy Youngfleish

Troy Youngfleish, co-owner, has been living and chasing Elk in the Telluride region for the past 18 years. As an avid bow hunter, one of his greatest thrills is getting up close and personal with the magnificent animals of the Rocky Mountains. He especially enjoys the "talk and stalk" aspect of hunting bulls in the rut and loves to share this experience with others.

Kris Knackendoffel

As a western Colorado native, Kris’ passion for the outdoors began at an early age. He grew up in Grand Junction where he pursued waterfowl and upland birds along the Colorado River corridor. While working for his biology degree at Fort Lewis College in Durango he discovered the challenge of big game archery hunting and has never looked back. Since then he has logged a multitude of seasons hunting and scouting the San Juan Mountains for elk and mule deer. What he loves most about hunting the San Juan’s steep and rugged terrain are the strong animal populations, low hunting pressure and true wilderness experiences. Kris brings a diversity of experience and skill to the backcountry. He spends his summers in Telluride working as a fishing and whitewater guide and winters as a ski racing coach and mountaineer.

Brett Schreckengost

Avid outdoorsman Brett Schreckengost grew up hunting and fishing the forests of western Pennsylvania out of a family camp. He attended college in West Virginia and continued to live a mountain lifestyle that brought him to Telluride in 1992. He landed his first job in town building handcrafted fly rods for Scott Fly Rods and later guided fly-fishing trips for Telluride Outside. Brett is currently a professional photographer that specializes in outdoor sports, wildlife and adventure travel. His work is published in magazines like National Geographic Adventure, Ski, Skiing, Sports Afield, and many others. He currently lives with his wife Corinne in the small town of Ophir, where Elk or Venison is on the menu four days a week.

Kirk Huddleston

Kirk began his big game experience at age 16 by taking an Island Blacktail in the Pacific Northwest with a bow. Growing up in the Puget Sound area, hunting and fishing became early passions. He relocated to Colorado and took his first Rocky Mountain Elk in 1997 on the Grand Mesa. Over 20 years of experiences in the field have taught Kirk about the habitats and tendencies of these amazing animals. The last five years have found him hunting just outside of Telluride, ascending ridges and packing out elk from Colorado’s high country. Kirk takes great pride in sharing the outdoors with hunters in search of their next prize.

Jamie Weis

A seasoned and demonstrated guide, Jamie has been working with Telluride Outside for the past 10 years. Prior to 2005, Jamie was a full time fishing guide for Black Canyon anglers and Telluride Outside on San Miguel and Gunnison rivers. As summer turned into fall, Jamie’s focus turned to guiding archery, muzzleloader, and rifle hunts for Peaks to Prairie Outfitters. Guiding elk and mule deer hunts along Colorado’s Western slope and into the northern reaches of New Mexico, Jamie gained invaluable knowledge and experience. An archery hunter himself, Weis is an accomplished caller. Telluride Outside is pleased to have Jamie back on staff for our upcoming hunting seasons.
